Mom´s Visit: How We Spent el 6 de Agosto, Bolivian Independence Day

Since all restaurants (and businesses) close the night before, we invited my mom over for some Trapiche Malbec and a specialty dish that I've been thinking about making ever since I saw it in Vietnam a couple years back. Look at those colorfully filled pineapples. They were delicious!

Even though we missed the official parade (at midnight the night before, not during the daytime like for other holidays), we still got to see some traditional costumes.

Yup, that was me all along.

Cactus outside of Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), where we spent the afternoon.

A flute player standing atop a natural pillar in the middle of Valle de la Luna.

After a short trip to the zoo to watch pumas mull around and monkey play joyfully, we rented a dune buggy and sped around the dirt roads of Mayasa.
