Stiglitz, Vanity Fair, July 2009
Recently, an email conversation tweaked my mind about the IMF and the World Bank. It led me to reread an impressive article that Joseph Stiglitz published in Vanity Fair in July. In it, Stiglitz, World Bank Chief Economist (1997-2000), echos a common assessment of the history of modern day, American imperialism. This interpretation helps explain the cautious curiosity I encounter in Latin America when I mention that I studied economics and that my future plans revolve around economic development. Stiglitz sums up a very comprehensive overview of global aid banks and the political economy of the developing world. You can find Stiglitz's article here or in "This Week's Links."
