I've always loved hammocks. Whether it was our "We Can't Do Anything Wrong" hammock on Greenwood Street or the thousands of relaxation stations throughout Costa Rica and Cambodia, hammocks provided convenient spots to kick back. What better place to soak in your surroundings and take a few minutes to collect your thoughts!? You can even just read a book or plug into your iPod while casually stretched out. Just like a sailor needs his boat, a traveler must have a hammock.
For our Asian excursion, my brother and I brought travel hammocks made of parachute-nylon that conveniently stuffed into pocket-sized bags. To set up, all we had to do was find two trees, wrap rope around them, and hop on our floating beds. Easy as that. Body weight tightened the rope and held the hammocks sturdily in place. Within two minutes of choosing our scenic or shady Siesta spots, the portable hammocks kept us comfortably suspended in the air. Travel hammocks are simple yet essential travel gear. And as the logo on our rockers suggests, "It beats the ground."
