He's On A Boat!
"Why did you want to take on this adventure?"
"Mainly for the adventure. Football season was over and I was looking for something else to do..."
In my life quest to become The World's Most Interesting Man, I've stumbled upon the guy who might actually be just that. Seventeen-year-old Zac Sunderland is completing a year long journey sailing across the world. Not only will Zac be the youngest person ever to circumnavigate the globe by himself, he's out-maneuvered pirates, fought through squalls, and survived with a cracked mast while alone at sea.
Zac's created a name for himself. He's sold Zac Sunderland Calandars throughout his trip, established a popular blog, recorded a documentary of his trip (set to release a few months after the completion of his voyage), posed for the front cover of ESPN The Magazine, received satellite phone calls from astronauts in the International Space Station, and is in the process of writing a book about his journey. To add to his list of feats, which are individually monumental let alone the cumulation of them all, Zac plans to conquer the Arctic Circle on dogsled next.
"I don't want to spend my life reading about what other people have done. I want to be the kind of person that people want to read about," Zac explained in his blog (6/12/2009). "I believe that my solo circumnavigation is just the beginning of many more adventures to come. Documenting them and telling others and hopefully inspiring others at the same time is what I want to do."
Zac Sunderland receives my nomination as The World's Most Interesting Man.
